Opis produktu:

The photos, many previously unpublished, are augmented by seven line drawings. Illustrated with 220 photographs; 80 pages.

The M151 was intended to be a lightweight, high-mobility replacement for the M38A1, itself a successor to the famed World War II jeep. Dubbed the Military Utility Tactical Truck or MUTT by the military - GIs almost universally referred to the vehicle as a jeep.

The series' service life spanned more than 40 years and four manufacturers, and the vehicles saw service everywhere the US GI was deployed. This volume chronicles the development and field use of the M151 series in Europe, the Middle East and, of course, there is extensive coverage of the vehicles' service in Vietnam.

Many in the historic military vehicle hobby remember Squadron books from their youth. There was a time, every hobby shop had a spinning rack of Squadron/Signal "In Action" or "walk-around" books. It was easy, then, as we all grew older to forget about this series of books, regarding them as "modelers' references." But, if you take time to recall, some of those books featured some of the most striking photographs of vehicles, planes, warships or even soldiers." These books taught us the details that we later learned to incorporate in our vehicle restorations.

Frequent Military Vehicles Magazine author, David Doyle, has produced dozens of books that bridge the gap between military modelers and military vehicle restorationists. One of his latest works, M151 MUTT in Action, transcends the usual level of detail found in a Squadron book to become the most significant history of the M151 series of vehicles ever published.

On the outside, M151 MUTT in Action looks like any other Signal/Squadron book with dramatic painting of vehicles on the front and back covers. A glance at Doyle's opening essay on M151 development quickly reveals this book is going to be far from typical. Unlike other books in the series, M151 MUTT in Action explores contract awards, prototype development and delivery records. The photographs Doyle has selected to tell the MUTT's story are striking in clarity, usefulness and very detailed captions. You will be surprised by the nuances in construction you will learn from this photographic record of development, deployment and combat history
