Opis produktu:
"The Hittite Empire stretched from Mesopotamia to Syria and Palestine. Their invasion spelled the end of the Old Babylonian empire in Mesopotamia. The Hittite civilization dominated Mesopotamia from 1600 BC to 1200 BC. The Hittites were a warrior people noted for their ferocity. They supposedly invented iron which was used to forge weapons. Certainly the Hittites were famous for their three-man chariots, with a driver, an attacker, and a defender. There are original illustrations of these, along with a Hittite manual which describes in detail the training of horses and those who used them in battle. The Hittite language is the earliest preserved member of the Indo-European family of languages. It was written on clay tablets in central Asia Minor over a five hundred year span (c.1650-1180 BC). The Hittites adopted many of the gods of the Sumerians and Old Babylonians. Strangely, though the Hittites also deemed that all other gods were equally legitimate. Whenever they conquered a people, they adopted their gods into their religious system. The Egyptians regarded them as barbarians. From 1300-1200 BC, the Hittites waged a war against Egypt that drained both empires tragically. Indeed it was the famous battle of Qadesh that saw the Hittite civilization come to an abrupt end, just as it had started. Hittite cities and territories thrived independently until they were finally conquered most likely by the Assyrians and others.
The Hittites were at their zenith politically and militarily superior - their race is endlessly fascinating in battle ethics, religion and daily life. This title explores the warrior race that thrust the Hittite civilization to the forefront of power, its training, tactics, belief systems, and rewards, as well as its unique policy of mass transportation of conquered peoples.
