Opis produktu:

This is the last volume of his monumental chronicle. The author examines the cavalry's role in trench warfare and shows how at the worst crisis moments, the cavalry's superior mobility saved the day.

Taking over from where volume VIII left off, this volume covers the rest of WW1 and the mechanisation of the Cavalry. The Marquess of Angleseys prose is a readable as ever but in this volume the nature of the topic results in some chapters covering a single day (such as the first day of the Battle of Cambrai) and some covering several years. As always the reasearch is throught but in my view let down by the quality of the mapping. The defintion of "British Cavalry" is as broad as ever; as not only are Indian, Canadian and Australian mounted tropps covered, but so are those new fangled mechanical contrivances Tanks and Armoured cars. I found the Marquesses telling of the strengths and weakenesses of horsed troops and mechanised units compelling. Incidently despite the title the coverage actullally extends until the Syrian campaign of 1940 and beyond. All in all a worthy final volume.
